The Hero's Die - Devlog 1 - Intro

This Devlog is a few things. First, it's a test because I have never submitted a Devlog and am experimenting with this. Second, it's a chance to talk about the game and answer any unasked questions you may have. Third, this is an opportunity to discuss the process of making the game before it is finalized (out of beta).

The Hero's Die is a game I decided to make for two reasons--I love RPGs, and I love writing. There are many RPGs out there, with many more fan fiction novels based on those games. However, all these games have a variety of legal restrictions that make it difficult to write stories. It takes a considerable amount of time and dedication to write a story. It can take just as much time looking up all the legal restrictions involved when publishing novels based on a game. By making my own game, I can now write novels based on the games played in this RPG, and I don't have to spend time going through all the legal restrictions.

Joy is always more significant when it is shared. It took a lot of time coming up with this game--but it was time well spent and thoroughly enjoyed with family and friends. I want to share this with others. Yes, I could offer it for free, but I have a family to care for, and like many others, I need a little extra cash on the side. If this THD can take off and become successful, then I can guarantee it will be offered for free in the future. However, for now, I don't have the ability to provide it for free without taking a significant hit.

However, I can promise that anyone who buys the beta version of THD will get the full version for free, when it is released.

So, why is THD released as a beta? Simply, I took a few hits that significantly delayed the full game, and I know it needs more playtesting.

When will THD full version be out? I would like to get it released by the Summer of 2021. However, this is contingent on 2 things. 1 - The number of playtests performed. 2 - Hiring a few artists to help with the manual.

Right now, all the artwork is me--and I not a professional artist. I had tried to hire a few, but the deals fell through, so I had to rely on myself. If you are a professional artist interested in helping provide some art for the THD final version, please contact me at theskull@radiatedskull.com

I have run playtests with friends and family. While they all had fun, I believe a more genuine test of play would be with strangers interested in THD. So, if you are reading this, you don't know me, and you are interested in playtesting THD, you have a few options (you don't need to do all these options, just one will work).

1 - email me (theskull@radiatedskull.com) and let me know your interest in playtesting. I will respond and let you know when I am holding the next playtest.

2 - Subscribe to the website (radiatedskull.com). You'll get an email when the next playtest is being offered and how to sign up for it.

3 - Become a patron (https://www.patreon.com/radiatedskull). As I build my inventory and develop more things, patrons will get more benefits, free stuff, and discounts.

I think I have hit my limit with this Devlog. Please, contact me with what you are interested in and what you would like to see in the next Devlog. I do not want to flood this. I want to make it worth your reading time--so feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for tuning into this log. I appreciate the support. If you're following me, then you'll be sure to get a notification when the next thing comes along--and I can tell you what that is right now. I am writing a novelette based on gameplay from HD Lite (a no-prep version of THD). It is a Modern-Horror story with a Retrieval plot (this will all make more sense if you take a peek at the HD Lite intro). It was a lot of fun playing and has been a blast writing. I intend to have the story finished and ready for publication by the end of January--so stay tuned for a good horror story about finding that which was lost.

Until next time, stay safe, and have some fun!
